South Sudan is having a long Journey on a rough road

It’s still a long journey on a rough road. By: Abraham Daljang Maker, Kampala Uganda The long awaited independence came like a thief on the 9 th July 2011 and everyone could not believe that it was true. After the two decades of civil war fought between north and south Sudan, comprehensive peace agreement came as a blessing which latter brought a little bit of peace and tranquility in the country. Six years of interim government in south Sudan was finally sealed off with the Independence of south last year. Tears of joy were rolling down on everyone’s cheek on that day when the flag of the world’s newest nation was hoisted. Many south Sudanese believed that this was to mark the suffering and agony of war and its ramifications.  Life was like an automatic vehicle that only needs a driver to move it. For the first time in my whole life, I slept soundly because peace has come at least; well I didn’t know what peace means. For that matter, I used to ask my mother what it m...
Insects  are small but very dangerous species. By: Abraham Daljang Maker, Kampala Uganda. It is about a month now since I heard annoying rhetoric from the President of Sudan when #South Sudan took over oil field of Panthou known as #Heglig. The statement has been haunting me all these times until I thought of some instances were people used offensive words which latter boomeranged.   Being a very good verbal attacker who does not think twice before uttering out words; Omar al Bashir made an exasperating statement by calling people of south Sudan as insects that needed to be removed. Judging by his pronouncement, you would think that Bashir would in no minute turn the whole of south Sudan into an ocean and erased the people away from this earth. Having grown in the bush, I was not so much scared by his statement because the words are not so unusual to me since he uses them always during the twenty years of conflict. Despite all his scary voice, SPLA was able to c...

The souring relationship between Sudan and south Sudan

The Souring Relationship between Sudan and South Sudan By: Abraham Daljang Maker, Kampala Uganda It has been expected of the two sister nations to be engaged in serious war. the independence of south Sudan was not a welcome gesture in Khartoum because of the potential wealth in the south, but conditions could not favoured Sudan's decision hence the secession of the south Sudan was inevitable.  Just like the devoiced couples who can never be in a good term. South Sudan and the Sudan have the fresh scars of the wounds they inflicted on each other during the two decades conflict. The emergence of the rebel activity in southern Kordufan and Blue Nile has prompted Sudan to accuse the southern Neighbor of arming the rebels, and in the same way, south Sudan accused Sudan for supporting the southern rebels. The dire relationship has been on for some time until of recent when a lot of reports about Sudan aerial bombardment on the South Sudan's territory became the talk of t...

Was Muammar Gaddafi worst than Omar al Bashir?

Was Muammar Gaddafi worst than Omar al Bashir? By: Abraham Daljang Maker, Kampala Uganda When you compare and contrast these two men, you realize that both are more less the same in their behavior and mode of thinking. The late Muammar Gaddafi, the former Libyan leader and the President of the Sudan, Omar al Bashir have no different at all. Only that the former was a brave man who did not tolerate western intervention in Africa but the latter is a coward who just use verbal attack on the West but can not do anything. Unlike Bashir, Gaddafi was a nationalists; he was believed to have played a crucial role in anti-Apartheid movement in South Africa in early 1980s. His image as a revolutionary inspired many South Africans to fight for their liberation, and he was largely responsible for funding and arming the Anti-Apartheid Movement as it fought the Apartheid regime and white minority rule. Given all these, Gaddafi was viewed in Africa as a hero. On the contrary, Bashir has b...
